Where We Stand On the Issues
Police Reform:
Our List of Demands of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office
Reallocation of Police Funding
Reallocate 33% PBSO budget funds back into Palm Beach County black, low income, & marginalized neighborhoods for community projects, affordable housing, family resources, & local businesses.
Increase New & Current Police Training
12-18 month retraining program for current LEOs and 18-24 month new training program for all incoming LEOs. Tie in specific racial sensitivity training, mental health awareness training, etc.
Require Body & Dash Cams
Require body cams and dash cams while engaging in any kind of law enforcement activity, on or off the clock. If you are working as an officer, body & dash cams should be on and recording.
Increase Demands of New Police Applicants
Additional requirements as part of the application process to be part of PBSO (i.e more mental health exams, longer and more extensive training, etc.)
Establish Independent Oversight
Outside independent investigation agency to handle ALL matters of PBSO misconduct. Outside agency should also be in control of handling body cam footage to ensure integrity of records.
Increase Punishment of Police Misconduct
Severe punishment for PBSO deputies that display misconduct and/or break the law to be determined by an outside independent agency, not the PBSO.
Abolish Qualified Immunity
Abolish qualified immunity protecting police officers from civil investigations and trials to allow the community to better hold them accountable in the courts of law that governs citizens every day.
Invest in Community Education
PBSO scholarship fund specifically for black youth (and other underserved youth) in Palm Beach County, open to the public, not just employees of PBSO.
